For all of Arsenal’s failings last year they did have a number of contenders for the Young Player of the Season, including Rob Holding and 2016 winner Hector Bellerin. However, the man to receive the award was Nigerian forward Iwobi who enjoyed a breakout year last season despite a late drop in form. The 21-year-old made 38 appearances in all competitions to cement himself as one of the Gunners’ rising stars. This term his pre-season form was exemplary but he has only made one late substitute appearance, against Stoke, in Arsenal’s three games so far.
