Alexis Sanchez watches on as the Anfield horror show unfolds
Monday, August 28, 2017
Thierry Henry fears Arsenal’s Anfield humiliation will convince wantaway stars Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain they should quit The Emirates.
The Gunners were hammered 4-0 by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon in an abject display devoid of passion and determination that sparked fury among the club’s fans.
And former favourite Henry believes it will make it even harder for beleaguered manager Arsene Wenger to convince his star men to commit their futures to the north London outfit.
“It doesn’t look right for those guys to stay,” he said. “We talk about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sanchez and are they staying, but they are not going to want to be part of this team.
“That is why players are not renewing contracts, they can see something is wrong at Arsenal. Why would you want to stay? Why stay at a club that puts in performances like that?”
Both Sanchez and Oxlade-Chamberlain were replaced with almost half an hour still to play on Merseyside, and Henry insists the Chilean’s reaction to his substitution spoke volumes.
The Frenchman added: “The way Sanchez was on the bench after being subbed, he didn’t look like he wanted to stay.”
